Family Theatre

Since coming to the University of Hawaii in l971 I have directed many dramas, musicals and fairytales, participation plays. My family theatre productions in Kennedy theatre are an annual event. Over 5,000 children are bused to the 450 seat theater and public performances are given on weekends. This production of "No One Will Marry A Princess With a Tree Growing Out of Her Head" received many Po'okela Awards (Hawaii's local Emmy) including the design awards for Best Set, Best costumes as well as Best Supporting Actress.

Multi-Cultural Theatre

My many years in Hawaii have made me knowledgeable and appreciative of the ethnic diversity of the islands. It has inspired me to direct plays and musicals with an international flavor. I was priviledged to direct the world premiere of Aurand Harris's awarding wining script "Monkey Magic" which we commissioned to celebrate the Chinese bicentennial in Hawaii.

Experimental Theatre

I enjoy experimenting with innovative theatrical forms, especially the integration of puppets into large stage productions. This 30 foot dragon made from PVC piping was an exciting highlight for both the children and adults in our production of "The Boy Who Stole the Stars" by Julian Wiles.
